Veteran's Day
This isn't about Iraq, about whether we should be there or not. Or Afganistan, or Korea still, or any one of the dozens of places across the globe American soldiers will sleep tonight.
This is about those soliders. Young men and women, volunteers all. And one day a year isn't too much to ask to honor them.
When I see things about soliders I think about a young man just out of high school, sitting on an air strip on a tiny island in the pacific, carrying a quarter of the DNA I'm walking around with today. Seeing things he won't talk about to this day. Probably wondering if this was how he was going to die.
But he came home, found a wife, and built a family. Got himself a job. Went to college, nights. Worked for the same company all his adult life.
Like thousands before and after. His war didn't define him, it was a part of him, sure, but not the whole part. The citizen soldier, did his part, served his country at war, and then served it in peace, by being a good father, husband, grandfather.
He's the American soldier to me. So thanks Pa-Pa, I'll down a Glenfiddich for you.

nice tribute to a vet that matters.
its the ones we know that make a difference in our lives.
Lovely, Kal.
The video brought tears to my eyes. That's what all the people did at the Remembrance Day parade & service at the local memorial: when the Veterans marched passed... we all applauded - and said "Thank you."
